Dear Colleagues,
As Terry remarked earlier, continental philosophy has a long way to go
before it can provide a basis for theorizing about design. While
philosophy can help us understand what we think, it provides a very
poor basis for guiding how we think when designing (or how we validate
what we do).
I have just posted a short paper on my home page at http://www.academia.edu/
charlesburnette "Theoretical Issues for Design Thinking" that
suggests why philosophy is not that useful when attempting to build a
theory on that subject. Once a theory has been built, the
philosophical positions it can accomodate become quite numerous.
