Dear All,
I am responsible for implementing a clinical pathway for colon and rectum tumours. I would be pleased if someone could let me know of other places where these kinds of pathways have been implemented and who is the person in charge, so that I can benchmark my work against similar experiences in other countries where it is already working well. The pathway I am working on begins with an occult blood screening test on the general population, which could be followed by colonscopy. In case of ascertained carcinoma, the pathway continues with surgery and, if needed, radiotherapy and chemiotherapy. At the end, patients are followed up to check for possible relapses. The clinical pathway involves GPs and will be implemented in a large area with 850,000 inhabitants, partly metropolitan (the city of Bologna, Italy) and partly suburban (50 different municipalities). In this area there are eight large general hospitals and more than 50 outpatient clinics.
Sincerely,
Danilo di Diodoro
Bologna, Italy
