The Centre for HPS at the University of Leeds invites expressions of interest from prospective doctoral students whose research might be suitable for funding under the terms of the AXA Research Fund, to which scheme the University of Leeds is permitted to propose two candidates for consideration this year. As the announcement below makes clear, the topics eligible for funding relate to life, socio-economic, and environment risks, but these may be approached from any discipline, including history, philosophy, and sociology of science, technology and medicine.
Prospective students are invited to identify potential topics according to their interests, although one particular research interest in the Centre for HPS at present is in the history of hearing loss and associated aspects of disability and ageing. Expressions of interest should be addressed to the centre director and postgraduate tutor, Dr Jonathan Topham ([log in to unmask]), in the first instance. The closing date for nominations is 11 March 2011.
Finally, a brief reminder that the Department of Philosophy (of which the Centre for HPS is part) is offering up to five PhD studentships in Philosophy/HPS this year, the closing date for applications for which is 11 March 2011. For details see http://www.philosophy.leeds.ac.uk/News/studentships.htm.
