medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

as far as i can remember (kind of middling far), Countess Adela was not noted
as a founder --or even a particularly Great Patron-- of any religious
institutions.
i believe she is remembered in her necrology appearances for relatively small
benefactions --most notably, in that of the cathedral, for having granted the
canons' request (c. 1105?) to have the butchers' stalls removed from the
apparently rather cramped quarters they occupied at the "portam novam" (an
undoubtedly narrow entrance to the north side of the cathedral close, "new" in
the 9th c.) which, in addition to making a stinking mess, were inhibiting the
passage of the great poutres which were involved in the reconstruction of the
roof of Bishop Fulbert's cathedral (c. 1020s).
even that mention is not found in her own obit entry, but rather the one for
one of her younger sons, Odo, who had apparently died at an early age.
