No, I don;t think that you need to mask - what the dr methods is testing is where there are areas in the brain where the pattern of connectivity into the DMN, say, differ between subjects or conditions. This is a differential contrast and might very well give results in areas which are not part of what would be the corresponding primary contrast. It is in this context that you need to interpret your findings.
