medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Sabinus, bishop of Piacenza (420) - he averted a flood by writing down
>> an
>> order and casting the paper in the Po river, which obeyed and returned
>> to
>> its normal course.
> In the fifth century paper-making hadn't reached the Mediterranean (the technology is said to have reached Damascus only in eighth century and paper's export into European countries is thought to have begun only in the tenth century). Perhaps a sheet of papyrus is meant.
Or parchment, or a ceramic shard, or a sheet of lead. Does this not
sounds remarkably like pagan magical practices that the church was
anxious to quash at this very time?
Cheers,
Jim
