Stop me here, and apologies if you're already planning something along these lines; I'm interested in why the testing seeks views from web users who are already probably users, or who are aware of the site? Why not test with demographic groups who are currently non-users, or who are not aware of the site?

Subject: Does Europeana make you think culture?
Hello,
I am taking part in some usability testing of the next release of
Europeana and we are looking for some willing participants to take part
in a focus group on the 9th February.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Researchers at the Centre for Digita
<http://www.ucl.ac.uk/dh/><http://www.ucl.ac.uk/dh/>l Humanities at UCL
<http://www.ucl.ac.uk/dh/>, in collaboration with Product Developers at
the /Europeana/ Foundation, are undertaking research into the use of
cultural heritage search portals with particular focus on usability and
functionality.
2011 sees the release of the second operational release of Europeana.eu
<http://www.europeana.eu/portal/index.html>, also known as the Danube
release. The aim of the Danube release is to provide sophisticated
functionality for Europeana's digital library of over 10 million items
of Europe's cultural and scientific heritage.
We are asking any members of museums, libraries and archives at all
grades and areas of work to take part in one of our focus groups so that
we can better understand the usability and expectations of cultural
heritage search portals, in order to develop user requirements for the
Europeana Danube release which is under development. The results of this
work should provide us with further insight into usability and
functionality of Cultural Heritage search portals and help to find
appropriate methodologies to detect and evaluate their impact. The
results will be fed directly into the development of the Danube release.
The focus group will be on the 9^th February at 5.30pm in G31 Foster
Court, UCL

wine and nibbles will be provided. It will take roughly an hour. If you
are interested in attending the focus group, and chatting about the
expectations, usability and functionality of Europeana please contact
