Hi
This is dictated by our IT expert. We using a classroom of PCs with fixed IP addresses. Our internet connection runs through a smoothwall proxy server. We are able to turn access on or off based on a group of IP addresses, so this gives us the control we need and is easy to administer from a web interface. For further info please see following websites.

Marjanne, you say that the disconnection of the internet is fairly easy to administer. Can I ask how you do this as our IT dept doesn't seem to think it's straightforward.

Hi Lorraine
Cannot help you with C&G. Do not do C&G and do not do FS Maths.
With the IT, I insist there is someone on standby all the time. The disconnection of the internet is fairly easy to administer, but in case of computer, printer malfunction I need to have someone there.
Having said that. I make sure the invigilators I choose are computer literate.

I have read the Functional Skills handbook from City and Guilds but
cannot see CLEARLY what the deadlines are for Maths dated 08.03.11.
There is a note about late fees being waived and I do remember that they
are not subject to the usual clear month in between scheduling and
taking place like other exams.
I entered students two days ago without any problems but today that date
is no longer available to me and C&G are not accepting late entries.
Luckily I only have one student who was not registered but I would like
to print these deadlines out as I'm sure this is not what I have been
told previously.
On another note, do other exams officers run the I.T. Functional Skills
exams unaided? We will be doing these for the first time in a few
weeks. I have read the requirements but am tempted to bring in an IT
tutor/technician to assist on setting up.
Thanks
