There seem to be some pomanders elsewhere of a similar shape:

I'm not sure how one would tell whether something like this was a
pomander or a reliquary: perhaps by iconography, if it corresponds to
the contents, perhaps by the presence or absence of piercings to let
scent escape -- although I've certainly seen things dubbed pomanders
that don't seem to have piercings and, IIRC, at least one or two
things dubbed reliquaries that do. I suppose you'd have to check
chemical traces to get more information.
