Dear Researchers & Practitioners.
I am very pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual International conference on Qualitative Research for Policy Making will be held on the 26 & 27 May 2011 in Belfast, UK. This highly interactive, cross-disciplinary conference will bring together top academics, practitioners and policy planners to discuss the challenges of delivering qualitative research for policy makers in times of austerity.
The conference format will consist of submitted (reviewed) presentations, invited keynotes, brainstorming workshops as well as interactive discussion sessions. As with all our past events, this conference will provide excellent opportunities for participants to network with peers.
Topics of Interests:
Researchers and practitioners are encouraged to submit their presentation abstracts including but not limited to the topics of interests listed below:
-UK Coalition Policies: emphasis on evidence informed/based policy or a move away from this?
-Understanding policy making processes: how to engage and connect in policy environments
-2014 Research Excellence Framework: criteria for assessing the quality of qualitative research
-How does the reduction in public funding impact how research tenders are awarded?
-Maximising the opportunities for qualitative research to enter into policy environments
-Using technologies to aid qualitative research processes and to drive down costs
-Anticipating 'hot issues' and producing timely reports for policy makers
-Implementing systematic reviews and syntheses of qualitative research to inform policy making
-Ensuring effective collaboration when dealing with highly complex research projects
-Discussing best practices on how to write, report and disseminate qualitative research findings
-Balancing between personal research interests with compromises to enter political realms
-Discussing the ethics concerning researcher and policy maker relationships: dos and don’ts
-How to measure the impact of qualitative research within the context of policy making?
-Discussing the role of media in policy agenda and media engagement with social research
-Converting research conclusions into actionable policy recommendations
-Discussing issues around (the perceived lack of) scientific rigour in qualitative research
-Developing strategies to convince stakeholders of the validity of qualitative research findings
-How policy makers make inferences from the qualitative research for policy making?
