medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From: Marjorie Greene <[log in to unmask]>
>to be technically correct... Bibiana (whichever one) is the patron saint
against hangovers.
as opposed to the patron saint of drunks.
a subtle distinction.
however, i was always under the impression that the patron of [/against]
hangovers was the Early Christian martyr St. Crinescanis [in Gaul,
Cirruscanis]--said to be much more effective than the much later (19th c.)
Ste. Aspirina, and who, strangely enough, has never made an appearance among
the list's daily hagiographic dose in all the years that i have been on it.
a list full of nothing but Tea Totalers, apparently, quite oblivious to the
Demands of the Reel Whirl.
