Dear Colleagues,
Apologies for any double posting as I have also sent to
the Clinical practice group, and also to any overseas
readers for whom this isn't relevant.
As many of you will know, I am retiring after 23 years at
the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. After a truly
stupendous battle by my colleagues, the Trust has
grudgingly agreed to the appointment of a replacement
which is a great vote of confidence in what I have been
doing all that time!
I will probably be moving south to become a carer with my
wife for our parents, so will be leaving Clinical
Chemistry completely. There are significant challenges
ahead but the future is looking bright in Sheffield as we
adopt new equipment and move into a new building in a
year’s time to provide a new integrated service, of
significant interest to any new appointee.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Clinical
Biochemistry, not least as chair of the panel of examiners
and latterly Director of Exams at the College, and hope
that I leave not too many of you sore if our paths crossed
unfavourably over the examination table!
With best wishes to all in what will undoubtedly be a very
challenging period over the next few years
