MED&REN CONFERENCE 2011
BARCELONA
CALL FOR PAPERS
The 2011 Med&Ren Conference will be held in Barcelona, from Tuesday, 5 July, to Friday, 8 July. Proposals are welcome for individual papers, sessions and poster presentations in Medieval and Renaissance music. This Conference will be held jointly by the Institut d´Estudis Catalans (IEC) and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) [Spanish National Research Council] at the Institut d´Estudis Catalans, calle Carme 47 (Barcelona, Spain).
Proposals (only one submission per author) will be accepted according to the following three categories:
Proposals for individual papers: Proposals should represent the paper as fully as possible. A successful proposal articulates the main aspects of the contribution clearly, positions the author’s findings with respect to earlier work, and suggests the paper’s significance. Thirty minutes are allotted to each individual paper, but the length of presentation is limited to twenty minutes to allow time for discussion. Maximum length of the proposal: 350 words.
Proposals for Sessions: An organizer representing several individuals may propose a Session of three papers, or shorter papers equivalent to an hour and a half. Organizers should prepare a short proposal outlining the relevance of the topic and the contributions. The organizer should also include a proposal for each paper conforming to the guidelines for individual proposals above. Maximum length: 350 words for the Session proposal and 350 words for each constituent paper.
Proposals for Poster presentations: This format is suited to the presentation of research projects and musicological initiatives of interest to those attending the Conference. Graduate students are also encouraged to present their research in the form of a poster presentation at which they can outline their work in progress and discuss it informally with Conference participants. Maximum length: 350 words.
Languages: The official language of the Conference is English, but papers may be given in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan. All proposals must be presented in English and indicate the language in which the paper will be read. All authors are encouraged to present their papers in English to facilitate discussion. Since there will be no simultaneous translation service, those wishing to present their paper in a language other than English must provide a detailed summary in English by 5 June 2011 (a month before the Conference); this will be distributed at the relevant session.
Publication: It is hoped that a selection of the papers relating in any way to Iberian Medieval and Renaissance music will be published after the Conference. Those authors who wish their contributions to be considered for this publication should present the final version of their paper in English at the time of the Conference (8 July 2011), according to the editorial guidelines that will be posted.
Submission procedure: Proposals must be received by Saturday 15 January 2011. Electronic proposal submission is encouraged. Proposals should be sent to:
