The Lexikon der christliche Ikonographie, vol, 2, p. 643 (under Kreuz),
gives the following reference:
F. Kampars, Mittelalterliche Sagen von Paradies und von dem Holze des
Kreuz Christi (Cologne, 1897). The article doesn't otherwise have much
on the woods of the cross.
