DelfiniGram Autumn 2010
Happy Autumn! The colors here in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon are
at their prime and amazingly beautiful! We hope wherever you are is
at least as
lovely too.We are grateful for so much, including the fact that The
Cochrane Collaboration
has discovered us and now lists our site as a quality resource for
evidence-based healthcare work!
Here's "What's News" at Delfini.org:
Since our last DelfiniGram, we post an interview with our friend, Chief
Safety Officer for Salem Hospital, Dr. Howard Cohen, who talks with us about
creating a culture of safety. Thank you so much, Howard!
We provide our thoughts about David H. Freedman's important article in The
Atlantic this month, profiling one of our heroes, Dr. John Ioannidis. The
article, "Lies, Damned Lies, and Medical Science," shines a light on only
the tip of the problems with the current state of disarray of medical
science described in the article. Only the tip! Read our commentary.
More information on quality improvement activities, by Dr. Brian Lee and Ken
Forbes, is now freely available at the BMJ about a project we did with
Kaiser Permanente Hawaii on chronic kidney disease. Thank you Brian and
Ken.
Prostate cancer screening-always a hot (and confusing) topic-is nicely
addressed by Dr. Otis Brawley, CMO, for the American Cancer Society.
We have new tools and help-freely available on our site-dealing with
oncology outcomes, using registries for safety, wording suggestions for
non-significant findings and help with evidence synthesis.
Information about our Delfini Seminars in 2011 is also posted. The
seminars are geared
for physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals as well.
Discounts are available
until January 1st. We are also pleased to report that, for our Delfini
Seminars in 2011, we
have officially received accreditation for pharmacists residing in
Washington and Oregon
(which may be honored by some other states such as Montana).

Happy Holidays until the next DelfiniGram in January. Warmest best, Sheri &
