The old Roman province of Aquitania included Auvergne (in late antiquity, this was part of Aquitania prima). See the map here:

BHL 8102 (T.'s _Vita prima_; tenth- or eleventh-century) places Calmeliacum in Aquitania, so that designation must still have had some currency even then.
