There are a few place left for the following event:
Costume Collections in Wales
Friday 15th October
Welsh Assembly Government Building, Rhodfa Padarn, Aberystwyth
Ceredigion Museum have recently been given a grant by the Museum’s Association to help them improve their costume collection by reviewing the whole collection and deciding what they need to keep and what they could disperse.
As part of their review process, CyMAL will be hosting a forum on behalf of Ceredigion Museum for other curators with costume collections in Wales to:
• consider how their collection compares with other museums’ collections;
• identify where there are gaps in the collections;
• decide which items in their collections could be dispersed to other collections;
• discuss other ways in which institutions could work together to provide greater access to collections;
• and to look at each other’s collecting policies
The main aim of the discussion is how to facilitate effective collecting and minimalise duplications, a potential outcome would be to develop a database that can be accessed by any institution, so they can collect more effectively, know what to accession, what to decline and where they can borrow from, or point enquiries to.
The format of the day involves an informal speaker session followed by a visit to Ceredigion Museum store to see the collection. Speakers will share with the group issues they are having with the collections, how they currently collect, why they collect, and their thoughts on a dispersed National Collection. We will also present CyMAL's tool we are developing for assigning Significance to collections (as part of the Museum Strategy for Wales).
If you are interested in attending the meeting, please contact Denise Lavis, Training & Development Adviser, CyMAL [log in to unmask] to book a place.
Casgliadau Gwisgoedd yng Nghymru
Dydd Gwener 15 Hydref
Swyddfa Llywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru, Rhodfa Padarn, Aberystwyth
Yn ddiweddar, cafodd Amgueddfa Ceredigion grant gan Gymdeithas yr Amgueddfeydd i’w helpu i wella ei chasgliad gwisgoedd drwy adolygu’r casgliad cyfan, a phenderfynu beth sydd angen ei gadw a beth y byddai modd iddi ei roi i gasgliadau eraill.
Fel rhan o’r broses adolygu, bydd CyMAL yn cynnal fforwm ar ran Amgueddfa Ceredigion ar gyfer curaduron eraill sy’n gofalu am gasgliadau gwisgoedd yng Nghymru, er mwyn iddynt allu:
• ystyried sut y mae eu casgliadau hwy yn cymharu â chasgliadau amgueddfeydd eraill;
• nodi lle y mae bylchau mewn casgliadau;
• penderfynu pa eitemau yn eu casgliadau y gellid eu rhoi i gasgliadau eraill;
• trafod ym mha ffyrdd eraill y gallai sefydliadau gydweithio i sicrhau bod y casgliadau yn fwy hygyrch;
• cael cyfle i drafod polisïau casglu'r naill a’r llall.
Prif nod y drafodaeth yw hwyluso trefniadau casglu effeithiol a chyfyngu ar unrhyw ddyblygu rhwng casgliadau. Un ateb posibl fyddai datblygu cronfa ddata y gall unrhyw sefydliad gael mynediad iddi, er mwyn iddynt allu casglu mewn modd mwy effeithiol. O ganlyniad, byddai sefydliadau yn gwybod beth i’w dderbyn, beth i’w wrthod, ac o ble y gellid benthyg eitemau neu i ble y gellid cyfeirio ymholiadau.
Bydd y diwrnod yn cynnwys sesiwn anffurfiol gan siaradwyr ac ymweliad â storfa Amgueddfa Ceredigion i weld y casgliad. Bydd y siaradwyr yn trafod gyda’r grŵp yr anawsterau y maen nhw’n eu cael gyda’r casgliadau, sut y maen nhw’n casglu ar hyn o bryd, pam eu bod nhw’n casglu, a byddant yn mynegi eu barn am Gasgliad Cenedlaethol gwasgaredig. Byddwn hefyd yn cyflwyno’r offer y mae CyMAL yn ei ddatblygu ar gyfer mynegi Pwysigrwydd casgliadau (fel rhan o Strategaeth Amgueddfeydd Cymru).
Os hoffech ddod i’r cyfarfod, cysylltwch â Denise Lavis, Cynghorydd Hyfforddi a Datblygu CyMAL [log in to unmask] i gadw lle.
