Accredited Training ‘Community and Citizen Engagement’ Participation Cymru
9-10 November and 8 December (3 days) - Carmarthen

We have been asked many times by practitioners when we will offer another accredited training course in citizen engagement. We always try to respond to need and we’re very pleased to be running the accredited course ‘Community and Citizen Engagement’ on 9-10 November and 8 December 2010 in Carmarthen.
If you or your colleagues are looking for a comprehensive course in public engagement, with the credibility that comes with accreditation, this could be what you’re looking for.
The three days of training room based learning, and a mix of practical, theory and project work, is a format we’ve tried and tested to get the most out of it for you, your organisation and the communities you work with. You will meet practitioners from across Wales and receive support to develop a work-based project. To achieve accreditation you will conduct your own engagement project, producing a written assignment in the form of a project report and demonstrate a participatory method. The learning aims, objectives and outcomes of the course can be found http://www.participationcymru.org.uk/training/community-and-citizen-engagement
WCVA Member £375; Voluntary organisations £435 ; Others £495 (prices are exclusive of VAT). There are a limited number of places left on this course, places will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. For booking please email [log in to unmask] or call 029 2043 6596.

Postgraduate certificate in
Leadership for Collaboration

PSMW and NLIAH have joined together to design a programme to equip leaders to deliver integrated and co-ordinated public services across Wales.

The twelve-month programme is split into three modules, each of which will utilise a blend of action learning sets, lectures, tutorials, coaching, case studies and diagnostic tools to ensure participants maximise learning. Keynote speakers, top-level practitioners and academics will encourage participants to share their experiences and use applied situations to develop analytical and creative thinking.

The programme will:
•	Provide a prestigious postgraduate qualification
•	Develop a cadre of leaders in Wales with the academic underpinning and experience to take forward the collaborative improvement agenda
•	Provide participants with a set of skills to become equipped to undertake strategic analysis and use the latest methodologies and tools to plan and implement the collaborative agenda; skilled in effective collaborative governance and citizen engagement; prepared to undertake innovative and flexible approaches to service delivery; and well networked both locally and nationally.

The next cohort begins in November. Applications are welcome from middle and senior managers currently working in the Welsh public service.

For more information or an informal discussion please email [log in to unmask] or telephone Suzanne Jones on 029 2041 6329.

Become Part of a Living Library

BECOME A LIVING BOOK
Share your knowledge with the wider public service

PSMW is developing a Living Library for use across the public and third sectors in Wales. The Library will build on the skills of experienced leaders and managers to create a resource for our workforce which is both innovative and cost effective. The Library should help to increase the flow and transference of knowledge across the Welsh public service.

A project co-ordinator will work with those who are willing to be ‘living books’, offering key information and expertise in particular areas, helping them to build a profile of what they can offer to others. These profiles will be used to develop an online system, enabling people to browse the Library to view what is available, select a ‘living book’ and arrange a conversation or meeting on the topic between them and the person holding that knowledge or experience.

We are currently seeking contributors to be ‘living books’. If you would be interested in sharing your knowledge and experience please email [log in to unmask] with a short description of the specific topic you would like to provide insight / knowledge about.

International Learning Opportunities:

"An incredible opportunity"

Make a personal contribution to development in Africa, by applying for an International Learning Opportunity…

The International Learning Opportunities (ILO) programme allows participants to live and work in countries such as Cameroon, Uganda and Zambia using and improving their leadership skills in a challenging context. Participants are matched to a variety of partner organisations to work on strategic development projects which are designed to support the partner, helping them to grow, develop and deal with change.

The experience gives participants a valuable insight into working with fewer resources, and allows them to use their creative and innovative skills. Participants return to Wales refreshed, with increased confidence and greater ability to manage with less. ILO also allows Wales to contribute to the delivery of the UN Development Goals by supporting organisations addressing poverty in Africa.

We are now recruiting for the next application deadline which closes on 19 November 2010. For more information or to request an application pack please visit our website www.wales.gov.uk/psmw or call 029 2068 1343.

The ILO programme is delivered in association with Adopt a Business (AaB) and funded by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Wales for Africa Framework.

For more information or to download an application pack visit the ILO pages of our website – www.wales.gov.uk/psmw or call Rox Mohammed on
029 2068 1343.

SPRINGBOARD WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Winner of several awards for innovation and quality, the Springboard Women’s Development Programme enables women to give more and get more out of their work. They identify where they are going, and then develop the skills, ‘can do’ attitude and the confidence to get on with it. All useful assets at any time, but especially valuable to organisations dealing with change.

Who is it for?
Aimed at employers wanting the benefits of developing a traditionally under-developed sector of staff: non-management women. Of course, developing people is good management practice anyway, but there are countless organisational benefits as well as having staff full of enthusiasm, ideas, skills and energy to succeed – especially in difficult times.

For more information about Springboard please visit www.springboardconsultancy.com

“Not only have the individuals benefitted from gaining extra increments, upgrades and qualifications, but the University has benefitted, as can be seen by the wide range of additional responsibilities that the women have assumed since attending the programme.”

PSMW is pleased to offer the opportunity for 16 individuals to undertake the Springboard programme beginning in December.

Limited places remain!
For more information about start dates and time commitments please email Sarah Kanyeihamba - [log in to unmask]

PSMW COACHING SERVICE:
“My experience of coaching has, without a doubt, had a positive impact on my work.”

PSMW’s coaching service helps individuals remove obstacles to achievement and find their own solutions to work-related barriers or problems. Coaching helps to build self-reliance and confidence and develops within the coachee a sustainable approach to addressing challenges and securing success.

A Welsh Assembly Government first, the online forum provides individuals that have participated in our learning opportunities the chance to share experiences, feedback on courses attended and connect with others across the Welsh public service. The forum also provides PSMW with an opportunity to improve the services we offer via the feedback that individuals leave.

The areas of discussion include Personal Learning and Development, Programmes, , International Learning Opportunities, Summer School, Coaching and Mentoring. There is also a general thread for individuals to discuss any PSMW-related topics.

Although the Forum is designed for individuals to share their experiences with others, PSMW would welcome any questions that you may have about future programmes / events or the work that we do.

Get involved!

To access the online discussion forum please visit www.psmwforum.org.uk to create an account.
