The Message below is being forwarded on behalf of Francis Herbert and is also available as a document in the lis-maps file store at https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/filearea.cgi?LMGT1=LIS-MAPS&a=get&f=/catalogues_(1).doc

This generally STC [‘Short Title Catalogue’] form of the contents - chiefly of the first (of half-a-dozen) metal boxes - of George Philip catalogues/lists has just been compiled primarily as a ‘first aid’ for two PhD students, from Germany and UK, seeking publicity materials on anatomical pictures and educational atlases respectively. Although not as extensive as the Bartholomew Archive in the National Library of Scotland it may be of use to others interested in a 19th/20th-century predominantly geo-cartographical publishing firm (with Scottish founders), with international trade connections. To please Carla Lois I have ‘gone to town’ in describing more fully the [1911?] item from Buenos Aires . . . The idea of also indicating some dates in bold within the individual entries is mine; the intention was to draw attention to an explanation of the sometimes conflicting dates for an item. Bear in mind this was a firm’s working archive: several items are annotated (sometimes indicated below), others have pages missing, sections excised, or covers missing.

Comments (printable) will be welcomed if further instalments are found useful. Access to the material is via Royal Geographical Society with IBG’s Foyle Reading Room, where all Collections are consulted in one place - www.rgs.org/OurWork/Collections/Collections.htp
