Thanks for the post, Francesca, I will forward it onto our mailing
list for the event listed below.
-----
Tomorrow we are holding an informal Panel Discussion/Research Summit
on The Family Dinner: Examining Higher Standards of Food Availability,
Affordability and Nutrition. Due to space constraints we were unable
to make this a public event, but please save the date for our final
presentation December 3rd, 2010. It will feature work from three
graduate courses undertaking this Research Study, Platform Strategy
led by Larry Keeley of Doblin Group & Understanding Users led by
Judith Gregory, PhD.
The Institute of Design is coming up on its 75th birthday. As an all
graduate program, the school's broad goal is to help students learn to
use the discipline of design, with its emphasis on user-centered
experiences, to resolve complex problems. The food cycle worldwide
presents many such problems, and also many compelling solutions.
We have invited a variety of participants in the food cycle to join us
for our rotating panel discussion. Each panel will be four or five
people and will be asked to collectively consider five questions.
1. What are the greatest challenges currently facing the food system?
2. How can a food production/consumption system be designed to address
food deserts and abundance nearby? Obesity and malnutrition? Child
survival and lifelong well-being?
3. How can a food system support social development and intellectual,
emotional and physical growth?
4. How can a food system be tailored to the special needs of any
citizen?
5. How can we promote greater food security, food access, and a
healthy citizenry?
SAVE THE DATE: DECEMBER 3rd, 2:00-6:00 P.M.
The workshop will take place from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm and will be held
at the Institute of Design. For those who have not yet visited, the
Institute of Design is located at 350 N. Lasalle Dr; an unmarked
building at the Southwest corner of Lasalle and Kinzie. Parking
vouchers will be provided upon request for Sterling Self Park, 345 N.
LaSalle Dr.
