Hello all
In 2007 a colleague posted a question on this list asking for information on the value (or otherwise) of subscription based reference online resources when so many people simply prefer to use Google. The question sparked some lively debate regarding promotion of these resources or the need for some kind of single portal for access, but I'm now wondering if things have moved on over the past 3 years.
In Portsmouth we subscribe to the usual: Oxford products, Britannica Online and the Grove Music and Art online. We are now reaching the end of our subscription period on one of them and wonder whether or not to re-subscribe.
Has any authority evaluated these products and come to any decisions about keeping the subscriptions going? Any information on how you evaluated use would be helpful as well. Are there any useful alternatives to subscribe to that patrons seem to prefer?
Any information much appreciated.
