Hi all
Here in Lincolnshire we are about to start a small scale pilot for home delivery which we are calling 'Pick & Click'.
We looked at the postal option and soon realised it would be prohibitively expensive and so have opted for a different approach - delivering the books to the customer ourselves.
We currently provide a door to door service for housebound people using small vans we call Access Mobiles. We are using spare capacity on these vehicles to deliver the Pick and Click Service. Customers place reservations online in the normal way and the books are sent to a central distribution point (the base for the Access Mobiles) and delivered to customers from there. It ia small scale pilot - approx 30 customers/families. The purpose of the pilot is to tell us:
1. What is the demand?
2. Can we pull it off successfully in operational terms?
3. How much would it cost to provide the service based on staff time, vehicle costs etc?
Deliveries will happen 1 day a month beginning in Sept so wish us luck! I've had discussions with MLA and hope to share the learning from the pilot.
Best Wishes
Gary Porter

I always thought that once Amazon dropped its free delivery threshold to
£5 we were stuffed as far as this idea was concerned.
