If anything this debate has proved one thing in my mind: public libraries
need much more of the enthusiasm and drive of the new young graduates. Much
of the media attention is as a result of the campaigning of a new young
graduate from Sheffield University who is passionately fighting for the
future of Doncaster libraries.
If public libraries as a collective want to get better, more emphasis should
be placed on securing places for the new generation of professional staff
coming through. You need new voices who want to create the service for the
future. Too many voices from the MLA down are tired and lack any vision for
the ethos of the service or real understanding of what it should be about.
