Hi Mike,
Newcastle uses Covergold which has a fairly sophisticated system of
putting content on different screens, timers etc. We use LG screens
currently with this set up and have about 9 screens in City Library. Let
me know if you need any more information.
Kind regards,
Andrew

Subject: Plasma screens in libraries - electronic noticeboards
I would be grateful to learn from other library services who make use of
plasma or LCD screens to display information in their libraries i.e
notices about events in libraries or in the local community and also
local council websites.
My limited research so far suggests that systems fall into 2 categories;
1) the cheap and cheerful using a PC or laptop plugged into a large TV
or monitor with internet access and running powerpoint pages to display
local information
2) bespoke and expensive systems with all the bells & whistle - split
screens, moving banners etc. These systems seem to involve annual
service charges which we would not be able to fund.
We are hoping for the simplicity & cost of a DIY solution but hopefully
with a few extra facilities in particular the ability to run a
ticker-tape style banner across the bottom of the screen which can be
updated on the fly , such as " Local Studies event begins in 30min" The
system needs to be managed locally (at each library) rather than
centrally. Any bought in or bespoke system must have zero or minimal
running costs as there will be no revenue funding for the project.
I would be grateful to hear about equipment & software being used and
how it is set up and managed.

Mike Walter, Libraries Project Officer, Northamptonshire Libraries and
Information Service.
