I guess it is probably instinctive to feel a relationship between 'intelligence' and 'thriving', and the library is a major ability for a person in this respect. If a community loses their library then they will be a poorer community for it. (I don't understand why a lot more communities do not organise themselves to make sure their library is delivering a top notch service -- and that the Government doesn't cut all the funding for the libraries as well.)
