Dear Colleagues,
Please consider submitting an abstract to the following session of the
2010 Fall AGU meeting:
“The Cenozoic West Antarctic Rift System (WARS): Observations,
Interpretations, Models and Implications” (T17)
Confirmed invited speakers: Sergio Rocchi (Università di Pisa), Timothy
Paulsen (University of Wisconsin Oshkosh), Steve Cande (SIO), Doug Wilson
(UCSB).
The deadline for abstract submission is Thursday, 2 September 2010. The
abstract submission website is

*Description*
WARS lies along a poorly constrained plate boundary where major rift
tectonics have probably influenced the development of the Antarctic
icesheets. This session seeks contributions that investigate the tectonic
motion between East and West Antarctica, the development of subglacial
basins, associated volcanic processes, and the evolution of the
TransAntarctic Mountains. We welcome onshore and offshore geological,
geophysical and geochemical contributions, including results from recent
drilling projects, particularly for the Neogene. Together with numerical
and experimental models, this session will explore the Cenozoic
geological, geodynamic, and paleoclimate processes and interactions.
We look forward to seeing you in San Francisco.
