Thanks for asking and answering this question - I couldn't understand why it worked for me sometimes but not others - but never thought to ask!

Helen

You need to enable it in the security settings: not much I can do about
that I'm afraid. In IE tools - Intertnet Options - Security - Select the
Internet or Local Intranet Zone depending where the files are - custom
level - then enable or prompt for 'Initialize and Script active Controls
not marked as Safe for scripting'.

Since we use a MS ActiveX control, why they can't mark it as safe for
scripting beats me.

I have tried and failed to get text2speech running on xerte. I have the
box ticked and am running in IE but no joy. Will it be easy for most
users?

Hi Julian
well yes it is the download available at
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/xerte/
which does indeed indicate June 7th but actually it's more recent than
that
and does include the pages I've mentioned and that you'll find on the
sandpit. There are 2 main difference between that download and what you
will
find on the sandpit - the sandpit has 4 additional page types under the
mitchellmedia menu and also the two extra optional properties on the
youtube
page.

Hi Ron,

Could you (or somebody) please confirm that the latest version of the
XOT with the new pages/changes you mention below is 1.5 (updated June
7th)?

cheers

Julian
