I guess there's an inexpressibility
topos (with an incommensurability
topos) in the seventh stanza of The
Countess of Pembroke's meditation
itself -- re inspiration for
praying-praising the Creator-deity.*
With express thanks to the conveyors
of these texts, Jim N.
*To wit:
O heavenly bounty passing reach of
witt,
How should I prayse? how speak or
write?
That want all power all means to
measure it.
Noe, thy owne workes thy wonders best
doe cite,
Yet my heart strives, & faine would
find words fitt,
Burnes with true zeale of fervent
longing spri'te
My burden'd soule in some sort to
expresse
So dare I thus my humbled thoughts
address.
