Here at Emerald Group Publishing Ltd we are in the process of developing a new subject-specific reading list service, showcasing Emerald content. This has been designed as a supplementary service and it represents a contribution to the overall body of knowledge. The primary objective of the service is to support the academic community by providing a tool with which to improve workflow.

Quality and depth are our main concerns and this is what makes our service unique; each list contains 22 different pieces of information per article for both ease-of-use and for quick identification of pertinent and relevant research. Information is provided regarding an articles structure and relevance, it’s literary and pedagogical qualities and in reference to its research methodology. Each list is overseen and reviewed by an Emerald Editor who is a subject expert in their field. Each list is also accompanied by an editorial of approx 800 words. The lists currently exist as standalone soft copies but we are looking to develop software internally for this in the near future.

This is a project under development, and to date we have been focussing our attention on students and lecturers needs, we would be interested to seek a librarians perspective. We are also keen to investigate the services interoperability with VLE systems.

The managing members of the project, myself and Cristina Irving, will be attending the UKOLN Reading List Software Hacking event in Cambridge later this month and look forward to meeting those of you who are attending.

If you have any queries before the event please feel free to contact us at: [log in to unmask]

Best wishes
