Research Fellow in Qualitative Research
Salary: £31,671 to £33,600 per annum
Fixed term 12 month contract from 1st August 2010 until 31st July 2011.
Part of the Institute of Health Services Research at the Peninsula Medical School, The Peninsula Technology Assessment Group (PenTAG) (http://sites.pcmd.ac.uk/pentag/) is a multi-disciplinary research unit comprising clinical and non-clinical researchers with a wide range of academic backgrounds: public health, general practice, medical statistics, health economics, operations research, qualitative health research, psychology, mathematics and computer science. We produce assessments of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of health technologies and public health interventions and strategies for national policy-making bodies such as the National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence. PenTAG is also an academic base for systematic reviews for the Cochrane Heart Group. More recently we have been developing a body of research on the evaluation of test accuracy studies. We are closely linked with the UK Support Unit for Cochrane Reviews of Diagnostic Test Accuracy based at the University of Birmingham and the newly developed NICE Diagnostics Advisory Committee. Improving the presentation and dissemination of the results of test evaluations is particular research interest and the project for which this post is being sought is part of this stream which we hope to develop further.
We are currently seeking a full-time Research Fellow for a project which seeks to understand how those with more or less experience understand systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy. Working with colleagues at PenTAG, the University of Birmingham and the University of Amsterdam, you will be the main researcher for the study, providing day to day project management, recruiting and interviewing people who need to understand such reviews, analysing data and drafting project reports.
You will be educated to degree level and have a higher level degree or equivalent research experience. Knowledge and experience of project management and qualitative research projects is essential.
This is a University of Exeter appointment and will be based in Exeter.
