The Use of Researcher Practice in the Design-Based PhD (June
2010)<http://designcalls.wordpress.com/2010/05/31/the-use-of-researcher-practice-in-the-design-based-phd-june-2010/>

Further to recent discussions on the PHD-DESIGN forum and a review of
published material, there is a need for a resource that presents documented
examples of completed PhD’s that include visually creative researcher
practice in the design-based PhD. An opportunity exists for the design
research community to generate a resource (with lots of images) that will be
of benefit to new researchers, supervisors, and demonstrate the value of
design-based researcher practice to the wider academy.

Workshop at the Designing Interactive Systems Conference
http://www.dis2010.org/
Organizers: Marisa Cohn, Silvia Lindtner, Ann Light, Matt Ratto, Tobie
Kerridge

We seek interdisciplinary scholars interested in exploring the ways in which
authority is distributed throughout the design process, what kind of
authority inheres in design, and also the ways that we design authority into
processes and materials. We invite designers and researchers interested in
how their interventions have impact to think critically and comparatively
about different modes of critical production, to explore the intersection of
critical making and thinking, and to attempt to trace forms of authority
through the production process. Rather than merely discuss this concept of
design(ed) authority, we will engage in tracing authority through the design
process from the crafting of position papers, to our engagements with
material making in the workshop itself.

 Interior Ecologies: IDEA JOURNAL
2010<http://designcalls.wordpress.com/2010/05/12/interior-ecologies-idea-journal-2010/>

May 12, 2010<http://designcalls.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=222&action=edit>

Academics, research students and practitioners are invited to submit design
research papers and critical project works that engage with interior
design/interior architecture theory and practice for the IDEA JOURNAL 2010.
Deadline for registration of interest: 7 June 2010.
Provocation

The IDEA JOURNAL 2010 provocation Interior Ecologies: exposing the
evolutionary interior seeks to elicit emergent interior debates on
contemporary spatial, material and performative practices. Can a critical
ecological approach to practice and discourse in interiors enable expanded
locales for research and experiment across disciplinary and theoretical
boundaries? Normative concepts concerned with the designed habitat, or
discursive debates around the interfaces of interior and exterior
conditions, may fall short in provoking interior thinking to engage through
ecologies of practice that contribute to advancing environments,
technologies and cultures. Interior Ecologies requests expressions of
interest regarding theoretical research, design practice and educational
accounts that promote the concept of evolutionary interiors. Examinations of
historical, contemporary and relational perspectives for constructed
situations and/or events are welcome.

SBCS 2010: 1st Brazilian Symposium on Services Science and 1st Meeting of
the Latin American and Caribbean Network on Services (Nov 2010,
Brazilia)<http://designcalls.wordpress.com/2010/05/06/sbcs-2010/>

May 6, 2010<http://designcalls.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=220&action=edit>

Website: www.cienciadeservicos.com.br.
Submission deadline: 15 July 2010.
Venue and date of the event: Brazilia, 17-19 November 2010.

Services science is a multidisciplinary field which brings together the
different areas of knowledge focused on the study of services. These
include, inter alia, engineering, administration, economics, design and the
social sciences. In this respect we hope that the Brazilian Symposium on
Services Science will attract papers from authors working in the different
areas of expertise concerned with the study of services activities.
Initially, authors of such papers are invited to send summaries of papers
for evaluation. Authors whose summaries are accepted by the evaluators will
be invited to submit complete versions of their papers for presentation
during the Symposium. Publication of selected papers in their complete
versions is not obligatory and authors may simply agree to their summaries
being published.
