My understanding is that the mines were drained by two separate drainage
adits, the later of the two being the Milwr Tunnel that discharges to
this day at Bagillt. Whether or not the upper (earlier) tunnel was
originally named "Halkin Deep" I will leave to others with access to
primary source material to confirm.

Driving of the 'Deep Level' began from a small valley near Flint in
1818,
was neglected for a while, then re-driven from 1838 and was the basis of
all
deep workings [inc. John Taylor's] for the remainder of the century.
The 'Milwr' or 'Sea-level' tunnel began in 1897 from the banks of the
Dee at
Bagillt and continued beyond the 1930s under Halkyn mountain.
