Driving of the 'Deep Level' began from a small valley near Flint in 1818,
was neglected for a while, then re-driven from 1838 and was the basis of all
deep workings [inc. John Taylor's] for the remainder of the century.
The 'Milwr' or 'Sea-level' tunnel began in 1897 from the banks of the Dee at
Bagillt and continued beyond the 1930s under Halkyn mountain.
