Are you considering artists' videos?
There is one by Mona Hatoum, "Measures of Distance" (1988), which
features letters from her mother inscribed (in Arabic) on the screen
and read in English translation (voice over). Interestingly it is
currently shown in Beirut alongside Chatal Akerman's "News from Home"
