I share the concerns you have stated and would add that the greasy hands of the capitalist has unfortunately leaked in such a way that it will harm the innocent.
Can someone tell me whether I am right in stating that by removing oil from the earth at this rate, there will be no lubricant for the shift of the earth and therefore we may end up with more earthquakes.
This has always been in my thoughts, but not being scientifically minded, can someone with the knowledge tell us what effect the removal of this volume of oil can or is causing apart from the destruction of the seas and wild life?

Subject: Re: America's hypocrisy (again!)
I think it is unfair to only criticise the USA and Obama. There is no
shortage of British and other oil companies causing havoc. Or those that
want to persuade people to grow biofuels, not food.
The problem is with the whole capitalist system which is just about making
as much money as possible for the already rich (and to create a few
co-operative new ones). If the oil companies were not so powerful, wouldn't
our universities have discovered some alternative mode of fuelling cars?
Wouldn't the panels for generating electricity from sunlight have become
cheaper? How about not financing wars (guess what pipelines pass through
Afghanistan, which also has as yet unworked reserves of many minerals -
heaven help them!) and financing trains instead?
And do you cycle and not drive?
