I think it is unfair to only criticise the USA and Obama. There is no
shortage of British and other oil companies causing havoc. Or those that
want to persuade people to grow biofuels, not food.
The problem is with the whole capitalist system which is just about making
as much money as possible for the already rich (and to create a few
co-operative new ones). If the oil companies were not so powerful, wouldn't
our universities have discovered some alternative mode of fuelling cars?
Wouldn't the panels for generating electricity from sunlight have become
cheaper? How about not financing wars (guess what pipelines pass through
Afghanistan, which also has as yet unworked reserves of many minerals -
heaven help them!) and financing trains instead?
And do you cycle and not drive?
