The iconic quality and extreme durability of that signage system is a
wonderful advertisement for the value of an Art School education. I
resist Terry's blanket assertions about art schools since I work in one
which has less than 10% of its students engaged in Fine Art and the
remainder working in Design and the Media Arts.
I don't see that majority being particularly subservient to the Fine
Artists although of course we do share some critical practices. We
deliberately chose the itle "Institute of Arts" because we wanted to
assert that the creative arts are a very broad field. This year we had
some students from both Engineering and Maths exhibiting work in our
final year degree show. Next year we are hoping to get Computing involved.
