This invites verbal assault. I have a friend currently finishing a writing MFA in the middle west. She told me the teacher barely does shit. A great way to make a fast buck. I'd like it to be my turn. Teaching Comp is an enervating pain in the ass. But every semester I find a student with The Gift. I DO try to nurture it. One of the bits of advice: "Stay away from the English Department. And never go near an MFA program." Will they listen? Not up to me. The ones who were awake when I shoved James Wright down their throats get the idea that Wright refused to teach writing and avoided a doctorate in same. Smart man.
