Eduardo has confused me about the "confusion of design with
Design" (maybe it's my pesky English-speaking mind.) Can I get some
elaboration?
I wonder about how assumptions about what is design/who is a designer
affects positions on this discussion. I suspect that Terry doesn't
think haute couture when he hears the word "design." I probably don't
think of many of the things that first come to mind for him.
I'm not sure about Kai's claim that graphic designers and artists
sketch the same way. A lot of art drawing is for the planning of form
and much is meant to be a (if Martha Stewart will pardon my
appropriation of her phrase) a good thing. Graphic design drawing
tends to be the cataloging of ideas and the explaining of ideas to
others in addition to some planning of form. Very little of "good
thing" drawing goes on in graphic design.
I've recently been involved in discussions about (art-oriented)
foundations classes including the way artists teach drawing in a
manner that is not particularly helpful for design education.
