We have a few places left for students to attend the DART doctoral workshop this year. These are usually available only to students from the partner universities, but this year we are able to offer a few more places to other universities. Places must be booked by the end of next week, and are offered on a first come first served basis. Please pass this message on to anyone you think may derive benefit from attendance - I presume these would normally be UK based...

The DART project has for the past several years organised a workshop on communication skills followed by a training conference at which design students can gain experience of presenting their work in a specially simulated conference.
The DART workshop and training conference are to be held again this year, and again hosted by Middlesex University at its Cat Hill campus in north London. Full details of the events and location are on the project website at http://www.dartevents.org
The first event this year is the Writing and Presentation skills workshop which will be held 10-11 June 2010.
These intensive training workshops are taught by a number of skilled researchers and supervisors, and have an emphasis on how to organise our research, how to reason from a foundation of evidence, how and why we write, how we position our research, and guidance for exemplary presentation of our work to an audience of peers.
On completion of this workshop, there will be an opportunity for students to also attend the July training conference when many of the lessons learned may be put into practice in a closed and supportive environment.
This event is open to PhD students nominated by the partner universities. There is no charge for attendance, but the partner universities may wish to support their students financially for travel and accommodation.
Please inform your students of this workshop.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Students must register through the website.

David Durling
