Hi,
I'm currently working on the project on Abstraction that touches several fields - Art History, Film Theory and Philosophy. I am wondering if it is possible to find some examples of Abstractions (i.e. something connected with Avant-Garde or Abstract Expressionism - forms, colors, lines or even black/white squares...?) in Art Films? Does anyone know books or articles on it? Actually, I am more interested in movies (like Gus Van Sant's or Wim Wenders's etc.), but not in so called "Abstract Films". The closest example for me here is like-Rothko's-colors in Antonioni's "Red Desert". Any kinds of examples accepted!
By the way, how better to call films of Gus Van Sant, Wim Wenders, Derek Jarmen etc. - art-house? Derek Jarmen related to avant-garde? or experimental?
Thank you so much,
Tania
