Dear List members,
Apologies if this doesn't concern you.
We have experienced poor performance with our calcium method (Arsenazo III) with patient samples at the low end of the reference range (2.20 mmol/L) for a long time and have not managed to bottom the problem. The vast majority of the repeated (adjusted) calcium results repeat about 0.1mmol/L higher (the repeated results fit with rest of biochemistry data). The problem is mainly encountered with GP samples and the low calciums are generally picked when PTH (and ALP) are found to be normal. We are using Siemens Advia 2400 but we were encountering similar problems with CPC method on the same platform and a move to Arsenazo III a few years ago has not come to fruition.
Are other users of the Siemens platform experiencing similar issues? Has anyone lowered their laboratory reference range for this platform/method?
Many thanks.
Rafaq Azad.
