Colleagues,
The following may be of interest to anyone with a background in architectural/stained glass or the history of art and craft practice.
The Welsh School of Architectural Glass at Swansea Metropolitan University is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2010 and is looking for submissions of interest for an 18th month funded MPhil looking at its extensive glass archive and collection. The MPhil is an 18 month fixed-term full-time project with a £15k tax free student bursary under the theme of 'Swansea Glass its impact, ethos and influence within education and the studio practice of architectural glass'.
The MPhil is intended to examine the extensive architectural glass archive held by the School, collate and investigate the initial teaching ethos of the School and its impact within the current teaching philosophy of the School and wider glass community. Howard Martin in 1935 established the first stained glass course in Swansea. He believed in the importance of education and commercial studio collaboration (Celtic Studios), which within current education is now becoming a very relevant component of teaching practice throughout Education Institutions. This 'reach out - reach in' activity has continued throughout the school's 75 year history and we now seek a researcher to access the archive of artefacts to investigate and analyse the impact of its teaching/ philosophy throughout glass studios nationally and internationally, drawing upon the knowledge based locally, nationally and abroad.
We are looking for someone with a good 1st degree.

The deadline is Friday 7th May 2010

Ian
