Dear Colleagues,
Earlier this week, I announced a professorship in interior design. All substantive facts are accurate, but we have set a deadline for applications.
The Faculty of Design at Swinburne University of Technology seeks a Professor in Interior Design. We seek an experienced designer or architect with strong research skills. We require a PhD is for this appointment. The deadline for applications is April 9, 2010.
This is an opportunity to join a team of experienced designers and design researchers as we contribute to the educational, scientific, and professional teaching missions of Swinburne University of Technology. Swinburne is listed among the top 500 universities in the world in the Shanghai Jiaotong (SHJT) university rankings and the Times Higher Education Supplement World University Ranking.
The industrial and interior design group offers degrees at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, including the MDes, the PhD, and the DDes. Top students are eligible for a place in our widely-respected Industry Based Learning program or our well-known honors degree program in the Design Centre. Sustainability is a leading theme in our courses. We have had great success in national and industry sponsored design awards and we offer exchange and study-abroad programs with European, Asian and North American design schools.
As a member of the interior design group, this professor will be part of the 3D group, which includes industrial design. As we develop new course offerings in the curriculum, we will be exploring interactions between industrial and interior design for the new technologies of our time.
The Faculty is home to many designers and scholars with international reputations. We have three research clusters within the National Institute for Design Research (NIDR). Prof. Dori Tunstall and Prof. Norman Sheehan lead our work in indigenous knowledge and design anthropology. Prof. Allan Whitfield heads NIDR and leads the program in neuro-affective design research, working closely with Prof. Paul Hekkert of Technological University of Delft (Netherlands) and Prof. Gitte Lindgaard of Carleton University (Canada). Dr. Simon Jackson leads design history and theory. Our faculty includes Prof. Frank Fisher, one of Australia's leading educators in sustainability, and Prof. Per Mollerup, one of the world's best known experts in communications design. We have a robust and highly successful doctoral program, a growing research profile, and a strong contingent of active scholars who serve on journal and publishing boards around the world.
We seek academics with industry experience, a completed doctorate, and teaching experience in the university sector. If you join us at Swinburne Design, you will bring research interests, academic publications and enthusiasm to build on the success of our faculty and our university as we move toward the future.
