Thanks, Roy, for your comments re Frederick Hatch. I worked for the U. K.
head firm of W. S. Atkins based here in Epsom, Surrey, from 1967 until 1979,
and had heard of the link in Canada, always then referred to in our office as
Atkins Hatch.
Bill Atkins (later Sir William) had a custom of enlarging the firm by linking up
with established consultancies in overseas countries, and I had presumed that
the Canadian firm had come about through a link between Atkins and an
established Hatch consultancy. What you tell us shows that was not the case.
My thought in posing the question re the Frederick Hatch, member of the
Mining Club, was that he might have been, say, Gerry Hatch's father, and that
the Hatch consultancy was already in existence before the link with Atkins.
Only a guess, and obviously wrong!
Cheers,
Tony Brewis
