Keith Nichols says the IMMM is now based in Doncaster.
Yes, they do have an office there, the old Institute of Mining Engineers office,
but as indicated in the April 2010 issue of the Institute's monthly publication
Materials World the IMMM is headquartered at 1 Carlton House Terrace,
London, SW1Y 5DB and has offices in Stoke-on-Trent and Grantham amongst
others. One of the activities of the Stoke office is membership, while the
IMMM's Schools Affiliate Scheme (aimed at encouraging youngsters to
consider a career in geology, mining, mineral processing, metallurgy and
materials science) is run from Grantham. The address of the office there,
given in the Schools Affiliate Scheme's Summer Term 2010 Newsletter, is
The Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining,
Grantham Regional Centre,
The Boilerhouse,
Springfield Business Park,
Caunt Road,
Grantham,
Lincolnshire,
NG31 7FZ.
As I reported in an earlier communication, the bulk of the old Institute of
Mining and Metallurgy's library has been relocated to Grantham and housed
in The Boilerhouse. Its name seems to imply some building of industrial
archaeological interest, but the only photographs I have seen show a
weird modern-art type of architecture, as though a giant had dropped a
cube into the ground, and it had landed awkwardly on one corner, so no
outside walls are vertical.
I gues some would say that's progress.
