The Digital Economy Bill, designed largely to prevent illegal file
sharing, was rushed through in the usual bargaining processes of
"wash-up" after the announcement of the election.
A similar Act was passed in the USA in 2008 - The Prioritizing Resources
and Organization for Intellectual Property Act of 2008, or the PRO-IP
Act .
It now appears that there was no evidence behind the estimates of the
losses sustained by the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and the Motion
Picture Association of America (MPAA) due to piracy and copyright
infringement
