I am writing to ask if you could bring the following one-year,
full-time MSc by Research (MRes) project opportunity to the attention
of your student undergraduate community please? It may of course also
be of interest to vocational Masters students seeking a more focused
applied research topic closely allied to an oil company sponsor.
I also attach a PDF advert for this purpose.
Many Thanks & Best Wishes
John

MSc by Research (MRes) Opportunity - Controls on Mesozoic and Cenozoic
Tectonics and Sedimentation in the Southern Adriatic and Ionian Sea
Cairn Energy PLC in partnership with The University of Edinburgh seeks
applications for a one year, full-time, fully-funded Masters by
Research (MRes) project entitled: Controls on Mesozoic and Cenozoic
Tectonics and Sedimentation in the Southern Adriatic and Ionian Sea
The project aims to undertake a seismic stratigraphic interpretation
of regional 2D seismic data and a new 3D seismic volume and integrate
its results with a re-evaluation of strategic field exposures and
borehole data in Greece, S Albania and SE Italy to understand the
fundamental controls on the tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the
area and its effects on petroleum prospectivity.
The study will be based at Edinburgh’s Grant Institute of Earth
Science under the supervision of Professor John Underhill and Dr
Pierre Eliet (Cairn Energy). There will be close liaison with the
sponsor company including the opportunity to work in-house during the
course of the project.
The project should appeal to any undergraduate geoscientist who holds
or is expected to gain a good Upper Second or First Class Honours
Degree (or equivalent) in Earth Science, Geology or Geophysics. It
would be of particular interest to a student who wishes to pursue a
career in the oil industry or continue to a higher degree in academia.
For further enquiries please email: [log in to unmask] or John
Underhill at: [log in to unmask]
To apply please send a written CV and covering letter containing the
names of two academic referees to:
