medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

butbut, that's clearly because the Anglicization of the Latin name "Ivo" is
"Ives" (perhaps from the French, "Yves"?).
the "s" there is part of the name, not some sort of possessive (without an
apostrophe).
like, say, "Charles."

everything, as any glance at an OS map will show you. I treat apostrophes as
coming and going over the centuries and use the OS if I want to establish a
modern standard for any one place - never making a grammatically-based
assumption about what that standard should be; this is standard practise for
editors/proofreaders. In this case, St Neots (no apostrophe) is the town near
Cambridge, St Neot (no s), is the village in Cornwall. And, for example, the
Cornish town of St Ives has no apostrophe... not to be confused with the
village of St Ive...

Some put in an apostrophe when describing the church dedication, and some
don't. I happened to leave it out. This is exactly why I need to speak to the
Cornish expert for my article...to get it spot on.

Perhaps someone could put me in touch with Jo Mattingly (I used to have her
email, but have temporarily mislaid
it).********************************************************************** To
