I seem to remember that when pressed, at the PLG conference in Bristol
about the source of some highly suspect figures her reply was along the
lines of 'Someone gave them to me, I have no idea where they came from.'
Take it she wasn't a librarian in a past life.
Shame she seems to be in charge of our futures.

Yes is someone going to point out to Newsnight that they quoted
inaccurate figures?

Subject: Newsnight report - statistics inaccurate?
Did anyone else watching last night's Newsnight report think the 'Total
UK Book Issues' figure was wrong?
It seemed to suggest the total for 2006-07 was 314,704 - but I think
they'd lifted this from CIPFA tables, which often report that statistic
in 1000s, meaning the true figure was 314 million?
Their key point about the drop since 1997-98 was still visible, but it
seemed a shame that the overall usage was misrepresented by such an
order of magnitude?
Disappointing all the more when Hodge failed to correct it in the
studio!
Unless I have totally misunderstood the report? How could the BBC
researchers not find that figure odd?
